How to Make Time to Study the Deen Regularly?

In today’s fast-paced world, making time for spiritual growth can feel overwhelming—but for a believer, the importance of prioritizing time to study the Deen regularly cannot be overstated. Our connection with Allah, our understanding of worship, and our ability to live a life that pleases Him all depend on knowledge rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Whether you’re a student, a parent, or a professional, carving out time each day to strengthen your understanding of Islam isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential. This article will guide you on simple, practical ways to study the Deen regularly, even with a busy schedule.

Narrated Abu Hurairah:

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2646)

So how do you make time consistently to study the deen, even with a busy schedule?

Start Small, But Start Today

You don’t need 2 hours a day to begin. Even 10-15 minutes a day with the right intention is valuable.

Choose one:

  • Read tafsir of one ayah daily.
  • Watch a 10-minute video from a trusted Islamic scholar.
  • Memorize or review a hadith.

Consistency is more powerful than quantity.

“..The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if small.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 6464)

Schedule It Like an Appointment

Block time on your calendar—just like meetings or meals.

Ideal time slots:

  • Early morning (after Fajr)
  • Commute time (with Islamic podcasts)
  • 30 minutes before bed

Treat it as non-negotiable time between you and Allah.

Replace Scroll Time with Soul Time

Track how much time you spend on social media or entertainment.

Just 20–30 minutes of that daily = 10+ hours a month you could use for:

  • Online Islamic courses (free or paid)
  • Reading seerah, tafsir, fiqh
  • Listening to Qur’an with explanation

Ask yourself: Is this screen time getting me closer to Jannah or further away?

Join a Study Group or Online Class

Accountability helps. When you’re learning with others:

  • You stay consistent.
  • You share questions and reflections.
  • You feel more connected to the ummah.

Use Weekends for Deeper Learning

Make your weekends spiritually productive.

Ideas:

  • Attend a local halaqah.
  • Listen to a khutbah recording.
  • Set a weekly “deen goal” (e.g., finish a surah’s tafsir, memorize 3 hadith).

Tip: Turn Islamic learning into family time. Watch together, learn together.

Make Du’a for Barakah in Your Time

Ask Allah to bless your schedule. Time expands when He puts barakah (blessing) in it.

Try this du’a:

اللهم بارك لي في وقتي ووفقني لطلب العلم النافع

“O Allah, bless my time and grant me success in seeking beneficial knowledge.”

Final Reminder: Make the Deen a Priority, Not a Side Hobby

We make time for what we truly value.

If we want Jannah, peace, and Allah’s pleasure, we must give the deen our best time, not the leftover time.

“..Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you…”

(Hadith 19, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi)
