6 Good Deeds That Have the Equal Reward of Hajj

Hajj is one of the greatest acts of worship in Islam — a journey of a lifetime. Yet Allah ﷻ, out of His infinite mercy, has given us opportunities to earn rewards equivalent to Hajj even without traveling to Makkah.
Through sincere actions and pure intentions, believers can achieve amazing rewards in their daily lives, even if they are not physically performing the pilgrimage. Here are 6 good deeds that have the equal reward to Hajj:

1. Performing the Fajr Prayer in Congregation & Engaging in Remembrance of ALLAH Until the Sun Rises.

Anas ibn Maalik (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Whoever prays Fajr in congregation then sits remembering Allah until the sun rises, then prays two rak’ahs, will have a reward like that of Hajj and Umrah.” He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ) said: “In full, in full, in full.”

(Jami`at-Tirmidhi 586)

2. Going to the Mosque for Congregational Prayer.

Narrated AbuUmamah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“If anyone goes out from his house after performing ablution for saying the prescribed prayer in congregation (in the mosque), his reward will be like that of one who goes for hajj pilgrimage after wearing ihram (robe worn by the hajj pilgrims)..”

(Sunan Abi Dawud 558)

3. Performing Eid prayer

The Companion Mikhnaf ibn Sulaym (RA) said, “The reward for attending Eid Al-Fitr prayer is equal to the reward of performing ‘Umrah and the reward for attending Eid Al- Adha Prayer is equal to that of performing Hajj.”

  • Eid Al-Adha is around the corner! Make sure that you attend Eid prayer safely, and set your intention to reap the reward of Hajj. Tell your whole family too!

4. Learning and Teaching in the Mosque

Abu Umamah (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever goes to the mosque not desiring except to learn or teach what is good has the reward of a pilgrim who completed his Hajj.”

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 7473)

  • Sometimes when we hear of a class taking place in our local masjid, we may feel like it’s not necessary, or that we don’t need the lesson. But the reward for seeking knowledge doesn’t depend on what you already know, but the desire to learn. Make the most of any opportunity to learn at the mosque, and, inshaAllah, you’ll gain the reward of Hajj.

5. Being Good To Your Parents

Sayyiduna Anas (RA) reports that a man came to The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said:

“I wish to participate in Jihad, but I cannot afford it” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ enquired if any of his parents were alive, to which he said: “Yes! My mother is alive” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Show Allah how you serve her. If you do so (duly) you will be like a: Haji, a Mu’tamir (one doing ‘Umrah) and a Mujaahid (One striving in Allah’s way).”

(Abu Ya’la, Hadith: 2760, and Tabarani with good chains.-Targheeb, vol.3, pg. 315 and Mukhtasar Ithaaf, Hadith: 5721)

6. Performing Umrah in Ramadan

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported:

The Messenger of Allah  said to a woman from the Ansār—Ibn ‘Abbās named her, but I forgot her name —

“What prevented you from performing Hajj with us?” She said: We only had two camels, and the father of her son and her son performed Hajj on one camel and left us a camel to carry water on. He ﷺ said: Perform ‘Umrah when Ramadan comes, for ‘Umrah in it is equivalent to Hajj.

[Sahih Muslim – 1256]

Conclusion: Rewards Beyond Imagination

Hajj is indeed a great pillar of Islam, but Allah ﷻ has blessed us with ways to earn similar rewards through simple, sincere deeds. These acts are open to every believer — rich or poor, young or old, near or far.
Let’s take advantage of these beautiful opportunities to grow closer to Allah and multiply our rewards!

May Allah make it easy for all of us to perform Hajj one day. In’Sha Allah
