Full Dua

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Transliteration:

‘Allahumm-akfini bihalalika ‘an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwaka

Translation in English:

(O Allah! Grant me enough of what You make lawful so that I may dispense with what You make unlawful, and enable me by Your Grace to dispense with all but You).”

Hadith:

‘Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

A slave who had made a contract with his master to pay for his freedom, came to me and said: “I am unable to fulfill my obligation, so help me.” He said to him: “Shall I not teach you a supplication which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me? It will surely prove so effective that if you have a debt as large as a huge mountain, Allah will surely pay it for you. Say:  ‘Allahumm-akfini bihalalika ‘an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwaka (O Allah! Grant me enough of what You make lawful so that I may dispense with what You make unlawful, and enable me by Your Grace to dispense with all but You).”

This du’a is not just a collection of words; it’s a way of life. Let’s break it down and see how this prayer can transform our mindset and strengthen our reliance on Allah.

1. Seeking Sufficiency in Halal Over Haram

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ

This part is a plea to be content and fulfilled with what is permissible, lawful, and pure. In a world where shortcuts, unethical means, and temptations are easily accessible, we ask Allah to give us strength — not just to stay away from haram, but to be satisfied with what is halal.

It’s not just about avoiding sin, but about building a heart that doesn’t need to look towards anything prohibited. Whether it’s earning money, building relationships, or finding joy — we ask to find all of that within what Allah has allowed.

When we sincerely make this du’a, we are asking Allah to fill our lives with barakah (blessing) in the halal, so we are not attracted by the glitter of the haram.

2. True Independence Lies in Allah’s Favor

وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Here, we acknowledge that real independence doesn’t come from wealth or people, but from Allah’s grace. It’s not wrong to seek help or support, but when our hearts become dependent on creation instead of the Creator, we lose peace.

We ask Allah:

  • To free us from needing constant validation from others

  • To save us from relying on people for sustenance

  • To grant us richness of the heart — where we feel complete because اللہ is enough

This part of the du’a reminds us: if Allah provides for me, protects me, and is with me — what more do I need?

So let’s hold tight to this du’a, whisper it in our sujood, and let it shape our hearts. Because when Allah is enough, we are truly free.
