Dua is the best and most tried-and-tested means of beseeching in the court of Almighty Allah, gaining nearness to Him, becoming worthy of His favors and bounties and receiving the glad-tidings of forgiveness and absolution. Offering Dua has also been a regular practice of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the pious predecessors.

Rabbana taqabbal minnaa innaka Antas Samee’ul Aleem
Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.
اے ہمارے رب! ہم سے قبول فرما
بیشک تو ہی سننے والا جاننے والا ہے۔
(This du`a was read by Ibrahim عليه السلام and Ismail عليه السلام when they completed the building of the Ka’bah.)
Rabbana wajAAalnamuslimayni laka wamin thurriyyatina ommatanmuslimatan laka waarina manasikana watubAAalayna innaka anta attawwabu arraheem
Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites [of worship] and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.
اے ہمارے رب! ہم دونوں کو اپنے حکم کے سامنے جھکنے والا بنا اور ہماری اولاد سے بھی ایک امت کو خاص اپنا تابع فرمان بنا
اور ہمیں ہماری عبادت (اور حج) کے قواعد بتا دے اور ہم پر (رحمت و مغفرت کی) نظر فرما، بیشک تو ہی بہت توبہ قبول فرمانے والا مہربان ہے
(This is also the du`a of Ibrahim عليه السلام)
Rabbanaaa Aatinaa Fiddunyaa H’asanata Wa Fil Aakhirati H’asanata Wa Qinaa A’d’aaban Naar
“Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
.اے رب ہمارے ہمیں دنیا میں بھلائی دے
اور ہمیں آخرت میں بھلائی دے اور ہمیں
عذاب دوزخ سے بچا
[ Rasulullah ﷺ used to recite this du`a very often – (Riyad as-Salihin 1467) ]
Rabbana afrigh ‘alainaa sabranw wa sabbit aqdaamanaa wansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen
“Our Lord! Bestow on us endurance and make us firm of foot and grant us victory over the disbelieving folk.”
اے رب ہمارے ہم پر صبر انڈیل دے اور ہمارے پاؤں جمے رکھ اورکافر لوگوں پرہماری مدد کر۔
(This du’a was read by the believers when they were at war with Jaloot. Before the army confronted them, they recited this du’a.)
Rabbana laa tu’aakhiznaaa in naseenaaa aw akhtaanaa
“Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.”
اے ربّ ہمارے ہمیں نہ پکڑ اگر ہم بھولیں یا چُوکیں
Rabbana wa laa tahmil-‘alainaaa isran kamaa hamaltahoo ‘alal-lazeena min qablinaa
Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
اے رب ہمارے اور ہم پر بھاری بوجھ نہ رکھ جیسا تو نے ہم سے اگلوں پر رکھا تھا
Rabbana wa laa tuhammilnaa maa laa taaqata lanaa bih; wa’fu ‘annaa waghfir lanaa warhamnaa; Anta mawlaanaa fansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen
Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
اے رب ہمارے اور ہم پر وہ بوجھ نہ ڈال جس کی ہمیں سہار نہ ہو اور ہمیں معاف فرما دے اور بخش دے اور ہم پر مِہر کر تو ہمارا مولیٰ ہے، تو کافروں پر ہمیں مدد دے۔
Narrated Abu Mas`ud al-Ansari:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If one recites the last two verses of Surat al-Baqarah at night, it is sufficient for him (for that night).” (Bukhari 5040)
Rabbana laa tuzigh quloobanaa ba’da iz hadaitanaa wa hab lanaa mil ladunka rahmah;
innaka antal Wahhaab — Rabbanaaa innaka jaami ‘un-naasil Yawmil laa raibafeeh; innal laaha laa yukhliful mee’aad
“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”
Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in His promise.
اے رب ہمارے دل ٹیڑھے نہ کر بعد اس کے کہ تو نے ہمیں ہدایت دی اور ہمیں اپنے پاس سے رحمت عطا کر بیشک تو
ہے بڑا دینے والا۔
اے رب ہمارے بیشک تو سب لوگوں کو جمع کرنے والا ہے اس دن کے لئے جس میں کوئی شبہہ نہیں بیشک اللہ کا وعدہ نہیں بدلتا۔
Rabbanaaa innanaaa aamannaa faghfir lanaa zunoobanaa wa qinaa ‘azaaban Naar
“Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,”
اے رب ہمارے ہم ایمان لائے تو ہمارے گناہ معاف کر اور ہمیں دوزخ کے عذاب سے بچالے۔
Rabbanaaa aamannaa bimaaa anzalta wattaba’nar Rasoola faktubnaa ma’ash shaahideen
Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger [i.e., Jesus], so register us among the witnesses [to truth].”
اے ہمارے رب! ہم اس کتاب پر ایمان لائے جو تو نے نازل فرمائی اورہم نے رسول کی اِتّباع کی
پس ہمیں گواہی دینے والوں میں سے لکھ دے۔
This du`a was made by the helpers of Esa عليه السلام. When Esa عليه السلام asked his nation that who amongst them will be his helpers.
They agreed and read this du`a as emphasis of their claim.
Rabbanagh fir lanaa zunoobanaa wa israafanaa feee amrinaa wa sabbit aqdaamanaa
wansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen
“Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
اے ہمارے رب بخش دے ہمارے گناہ اور جو زیادتیاں ہم نے اپنے کام میں کیں اور ہمارے قدم جما دے اور ہمیں ان کافر لوگوں پر مدد دے۔
Rabbanaa maa khalaqta haaza baatilan Subhaanaka faqinaa ‘azaaban Naar
Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
اے ہمارے رب!تو نے یہ سب بیکار نہیں بنایا۔ تو پاک ہے، تو ہمیں دوزخ کے عذاب سے بچالے۔
Rabbanaaa innaka man tudkhilin Naara faqad akhzai tahoo wa maa lizzaalimeena min ansaar
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire – You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.
اے رب ہمارے بیشک جسے تو دوزخ میں لے جائے اسے ضرور تو نے رسوائی دی اور ظالموں کا کوئی مددگار نہیں۔
Rabbanaaa innanaa sami’naa munaadiyai yunaadee lil eemaani
an aaminoo bi Rabbikum fa aamannaa
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed.
اے رب ہمارے ہم نے ایک منادی کو سنا کہ ایمان کے لئے ندا فرماتا ہے کہ اپنے رب پر ایمان لاؤ تو ہم ایمان لائے
Rabbanaa faghfir lanaa zunoobanaa wa kaffir ‘annaa saiyi aatina wa tawaffanaa ma’al abraar
Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die among the righteous.
اے رب ہمارے تو ہمارے گناہ بخش دے اور ہماری برائیاں محو فرمادے اور ہماری موت اچھوں کے ساتھ کر
Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise.”
اے رب ہمارے اور ہمیں دے وہ جس کا تو نے ہم سے وعدہ کیا ہے اپنے رسولوں کی معرفت اور ہمیں قیامت کے دن رسوانہ کر بیشک تو وعدہ خلاف نہیں کرتا ۔
Rabbanaaa aamannaa faktubnaa ma’ash shaahideen
Rabbanaaa aamannaa faktubnaa ma’ash shaahideen
Our Lord! We believe, so count us among the witnesses.
اے رب ہمارے ہم ایمان لائے تو ہمیں حق کے گواہوں میں لکھ لے۔
Rabbanaaa anzil ‘alainaa maaa’idatam minas samaaa’i takoonu lanaa ‘eedal li awwalinaa wa aakhirinaa wa Aayatam minka warzuqnaa wa Anta khairur raaziqeen
O Allah, our Lord! Send us from heaven a table spread with food as a feast for us—the first and last of us—and as a sign from You. Provide for us! You are indeed the Best Provider.
اے اللہ اے رب ہمارے ہم پر آسمان سے ایک خوان اُتار کہ وہ ہمارے لیے عید ہو ہمارے اگلے پچھلوں کی اور تیری طرف سے نشانی اور ہمیں رزق دے اور تو سب سے بہتر روزی دینے والا ہے ۔
Rabbanaa zalamnaaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa
wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen
Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.
ے ہمارے رب! ہم نے اپنی جانوں پر زیادتی کی اور اگر تو نے ہماری مغفرت نہ فرمائی اور ہم پر رحم نہ فرمایا تو ضرور ہم نقصان والوں میں سے ہوجائیں گے۔
This ayah proved that if a person’s minor sins are not forgiven, he will be punished for it as well. (Tafsir Mazhari Vol. 4. P. 283)
Rabbanaa laa taj’alnaa ma’al qawmiz zaalimeen
Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people.
اے ہمارے رب ہمیں ظالموں کے ساتھ نہ کر ۔
Rabbanaf-tah bainana wa baina qawmina bil haqqi wa anta Khairul Fatiheen
Our Lord, decide between us and our people in truth, and You are the best of those who give decision.
اے رب ہمارے ہم میں اور ہماری قوم میں حق فیصلہ کر اور تیرا فیصلہ سب سے بہتر ۔
This du`a was made by Shuaib عليه السلام when his nation refused to accept the truth. Shuaib عليه السلام turned to Allah I making du`a.
Rabbanaaa afrigh ‘alainaa sabranw wa tawaffanaa muslimeen
Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]
اے رب ہمارے ہم پر صبر انڈیل دے اور ہمیں مسلمان اٹھا۔
In this du`a, there is an indication to the fact that if Allah I does not wish and will, then man’s courage and hope will be of no use.
Therefore du`a is being made for firmness and steadfastness. Because it’s only steadfastness, patience and firmness which can make a person victorious over one’s opponents
85. Rabbana la taj’alna fitnatal lil-qawmidh-Dhalimeen ;
86. wa najjina bi- Rahmatika minal qawmil kafireen
Our Lord, make us not [objects of] trial for the wrongdoing people.
And save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people.
اے ہمارے رب! ہمیں ظالم لوگوں کے لیے آزمائش نہ بنا۔
اور اپنی رحمت فرما کر ہمیں کافروں سے نجات دے۔
Rabbanaaa innaka ta’lamu maa nukhfee wa maa nu’lin;
wa maa yakhfaa ‘alal laahi min shai’in fil ardi wa laa fis samaaa
Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth or in the heaven.
اے ہمارے رب تو جانتا ہے جو ہم چھپاتے ہیں اور جو ظاہر کرتے اور اللہ پر کچھ چھپا نہیں زمین میں نہ آسمان میں ۔
This was the du`a of Ibrahim عليه السلام.
Rabbij ‘alnee muqeemas Salaati wa min zurriyyatee Rabbanaa wa taqabbal du’aaa
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.
اے میرے رب مجھے نماز کا قائم کرنے والا رکھ اور کچھ میری اولاد کو اے ہمارے رب اور میری دعا سن لے۔
Rabbanagh fir lee wa liwaalidaiya wa lilmu’mineena Yawma yaqoomul hisaab
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.
اے ہمارے رب مجھے بخش دے اور میرے ماں باپ کو اور سب مسلمانوں کو جس دن حساب قائم ہوگا۔
This is also the du`a of Ibrahim عليه السلام..
Rabbanaaa aatinaa mil ladunka rahmatanw wa haiyi’ lanaa min amrinaa rashadaa
Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance.
اے ہمارے رب ہمیں اپنے پاس سے رحمت دے اور ہمارے کام میں ہمارے لیے راہ یابی کے سامان کر۔
This du`a was made by the companions of the cave when they took refuge in the cave.
Rabbanaaa innanaa nakhaafu ai yafruta ‘alainaaa aw ai yatghaa
Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress.
اے ہمارے رب! بیشک ہم اس بات سے ڈرتے ہیں کہ وہ ہم پر زیادتی کرے گا یا سرکشی سے پیش آئے گا۔
This was the du`a that Musa عليه السلام and Harun عليه السلام made to Allah I before going to Firoun.
Rabbanaaa aamannaa faghfir lanaa warhamnaa wa Anta khairur raahimeen
Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.
اے ہمارے رب ہم ایمان لائے تو ہمیں بخش دے اور ہم پر رحم کر اور تو سب سے بہتر رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
65. Rabbanas rif ‘annnaa ‘azaaba Jahannama inn ‘azaabahaa kaana gharaamaa
66. Innahaa saaa’at mustaqarranw wa muqaamaa
Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering;
Indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence.
اور وہ جو عرض کرتے ہیں اے ہمارے رب ہم سے پھیر دے جہنم کا عذاب بیشک اس کا عذاب گلے کا غُل ہے۔
بیشک وہ بہت ہی بری ٹھہرنے کی جگہ ہے۔
Rabbanaa hab lanaa min azwaajinaa wa zurriyaatinaa qurrata a’yuninw waj ‘alnaa lilmuttaqeena Imaamaa
Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader [i.e., example] for the righteous.
اے ہمارے رب ہمیں دے ہماری بیبیوں اورہماری اولاد سے آنکھوں کی ٹھنڈک اور ہمیں پرہیزگاروں کا پیشوا بنا۔
Qurtubi states: There can be nothing more soothing / cooling to the eyes than seeing a person’s wife and children being obedient to Allah. (Mazhari Vol. 8 P. 499)
Rabbana la Ghafurun shakur
“Our Lord is Forgiving and Appreciative”
ہمارا رب بخشنے والا قدر فرمانے والا ہے۔
Ibn Umar t narrates that Nabi r has said: The reciters of the kalimah will have no fear at the time of death, nor will they experience fear in the grave, nor on the plains of reckoning. I am seeing them wiping the dust off their heads (at the time of arising from their graves) and they will be saying the above. (Ibn Kathir Vol. 3 P. 565 by Tabaran)
Rabbanaa wasi’ta kulla shai’ir rahmatanw wa ‘ilman faghfir lillazeena taaboo wattaba’oo sabeelaka wa qihim ‘azaabal Jaheem
Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.
اے رب ہمارے تیرے رحمت و علم میں ہر چیز کی سَمائی ہے تو انہیں بخش دے جنہوں نے توبہ کی اور تیری راہ پر چلے اور انہیں دوزخ کے عذاب سے بچالے۔
Rabbana wa adhkhilhum Jannati ‘adninil-lati wa’attahum wa man salaha min aba’ihim wa azwajihim wa dhuriyyatihim innaka antal ‘Azizul-Hakim,
9. waqihimus saiyi’at wa man taqis-saiyi’ati yawma’idhin faqad rahimatahu wa dhalika huwal fawzul-‘Adheem
Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day – You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment.
اے ہمارے رب اور اُنہیں بسنے کے باغوں میں داخل کر جن کا تو نے اُن سے وعدہ فرمایا ہے اور ان کو جو نیک ہوں ان کے باپ دادا اور بیبیوں اور اولاد میں بیشک تو ہی عزت و حکمت والا ہے۔ اور اُنہیں گناہوں کی شامت سے بچالے اور جسے تو اُس دن گناہوں کی شامت سے بچائے تو بیشک تو نے اس پر رحم فرمایا اور یہی بڑی کامیابی ہے۔
Saeed bin Jubair t narrates: When a person will enter Jannah, he will enquire regarding the abode of his father / brother and son. It will be said to him: “They did not reach your status as far as good deeds are concerned.” The person will reply, “The good deeds I used to do were for myself as well as for them”. Hence they will be joined with him. Thereafter Saeed t recited the above ayah. (Ibn Kathir Vol. 4 P. 78)
Rabbanagh fir lanaa wa li ikhwaani nal lazeena sabqoonaa bil eemaani wa laa taj’al fee quloobinaa ghillalil lazeena aamanoo
Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed.
اے ہمارے رب ہمیں بخش دے اور ہمارے بھائیوں کو جو ہم سے پہلے ایمان لائے اور ہمارے دل میں ایمان والوں کی طرف سے کینہ نہ رکھ۔
Rabbannaaa innaka Ra’oofur Raheem
Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.
اے رب ہمارے بے شک تو ہی نہایت مہربان رحم والا ہے۔
Rabbanaa ‘alaika tawakkalnaa wa ilaika anabnaa wa ilaikal maseer
Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the destination.
اے ہمارے رب ہم نے تجھی پر بھروسہ کیا اور تیری ہی طرف رجوع لائے اور تیری ہی طرف پھرنا ہے۔
This was the du`a of Ibrahim عليه السلام and his followers.
Rabbana laa taj’alnaa fitnatal lillazeena kafaroo waghfir lanaa
rabbanaaa innaka antal azeezul hakeem
Our Lord, make us not [objects of] torment for the disbelievers and forgive us, our Lord. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
اے ہمارے رب ہمیں کافروں کی آزمائش میں نہ ڈال اور ہمیں بخش دے اے ہمارے رب بیشک تو ہی عزت و حکمت والا ہے۔
This is also part of the du`a made by Ibrahim عليه السلام and his followers.
Rabbanaaa atmim lanaa nooranaa waghfir lana innaka ‘alaa kulli shai’in qadeer
Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent.
اے ہمارے رب ہمارے لیے ہمارا نور پورا کردے اور ہمیں بخش دے بے شک تجھے ہر چیز پر قدرت ہے۔
Mujahid states that the Believers will recite this du`a at the time when they will see that the celestial light of the Hypocrites had disappeared on the day of Qiyamah. (Ibn Kathir Vol. 4 P. 418/9)
