Islamic Quiz – Meanings of the Surahs
The Quran consists of 114 Surahs in total, each with its own unique meaning and significance. These Surahs vary in length, with some containing just a few verses while others are longer. The themes covered in the Surahs are diverse, including guidance on faith, morality, laws, stories of prophets, and descriptions of the Hereafter.
Some Surahs are named after particular events, individuals, or themes mentioned within them. For example, Surah Yusuf is named after the Prophet Joseph, and Surah Al-Anfal is named after the spoils of war.
The majority of the surah names in the Quran were named by the Prophet (ﷺ). Some surahs were named by the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings upon them). [1]
