Forgiveness in Islam – Forgive and get Forgiveness

Forgive and get Forgiveness

Forgive and get Forgiveness. Seeking forgiveness from Allah with repentance is a virtue. Human beings are not perfect. Forgiveness is a critical aspect of Islam as everybody makes mistakes in life and unintentionally commits sins. Muslims believe that Allah is Merciful and Forgiving.

In Holy Quran Allah Almighty says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Who spend [in the cause of Allah ] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people – and Allah loves the doers of good”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:134]

“If [instead] you show [some] good or conceal it or pardon an offense – indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Competent”

[an-Nisaa’ 4:149]

“And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient – it is better for those who are patient”

[an-Nahl 16:126]

“And whoever is patient and forgives – indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination”

[ash-Shoora 42:43]

“But if you pardon and overlook and forgive – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful”

[at-Taghaabun 64:14].

Whoever forgive others from the heart then Allah Almighty will give him reward and we know Allah’s rewards are best from all. In another verse of Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says:

“The reward of the evil is the evil thereof, but whosoever forgives and makes amends, his reward is upon God.” (Quran, 42:40)

Forgiveness from Allah according to Hadiths:

Aisha (R.A) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH), said:

“O Allah, You are forgiving and generous. You love to forgive.”(Sunan At-Tirmidhi)

Abu Hurairah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying,

“I swear by Allah that I seek Allah’s Pardon and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.” (Al-Bukhari)

The Prophet (SAW) said:

“O people! Ask for the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him as I ask for the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him one hundred times a day.”

Forgiveness and Kindness in Sunnah

“And We did not send you (O beloved Prophet) but as a mercy for all the worlds.”

 (Al ambiaa, 107)

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

“Be merciful to others and you will receive mercy. Forgive others and Allah will forgive you”

(Musnad Ahmad).

If we forgive others then Allah will forgive us so try to be kind and forgiving so that we can get kindness, love, and forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

Allah عَزَّ وَجَلَّ sent the beloved Rasool صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ   full of mercy and kindness for all the worlds.

In Hadith:

Abu Abdullah Al-Khadali reported: I asked Aisha about the character of the Messenger of Allah Prophet (SAW). Aisha said:

“The Prophet was not indecent, he was not obscene, he would not shout in the markets, and he would not respond to an evil deed with an evil deed, but rather he would pardon and overlook.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi)

Benefits:

When the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked, Which of the people is best, he said: “Everyone who is pure of heart and sincere of speech.” They said: Sincere of speech, we know what this is, but what is pure of heart? He said: “It is (the heart) that is pious and pure, with no sin, injustice, rancour or envy in it.”

Narrated by Ibn Maajah (4216)

Muhammad ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) taught us that true strength is when you can overcome your anger. He said,

“The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.” [Sahih al Bukhari]

We should try our best to treat unkindness with kindness, especially with our close relatives. The least we could do is:

Treat them with respect and speak with kind words

Help them financially and emotionally when needed

Offer any sorts of service within your capabilities

Visit them once in a while

Pray for their well-being

By doing so, Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) will be with us and forgive our sins as well.

May Allah forgive our sins (Ameen). And ALLAH knows best.
